Heritage Pointe is honored to host The Jewish Collaborative’s Havdalah Together first in-person program featuring author Joel Poremba. Joel will share the incredible story of his father, who survived alone in the forest for years during the Holocaust from the age of nine.
The biography of Holocaust survivor, Nathan Poremba, explores his life and survival in Poland before, during and after the war. It is a story of resistance, survival, tragedy and hope, and the resilience of a nine-year old Polish Jew who never submitted to antisemitism.
Written by his son Joel, who was stunned to hear Nathan’s testimony to the Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive in 1998, it was only after an inspiring trip to Israel twenty-one years later that Joel finally watched his father’s video testimony. Determined to fulfill the promise that he made in his Bar Mitzvah speech to one day tell his father’s story, Joel subsequently interviewed his father about the details of his Holocaust survival.
