Our Founders
Heritage Pointe would not exist today without the dedication and commitment of Founders Loretta Modelevsky and Meryl Schrimmer.
In 1987, Meryl chaired an informal committee to explore the possibility of establishing a non-profit Jewish home for seniors in Orange County. After visiting existing Jewish homes and attending annual meetings of the North American Association of Jewish Homes and Housing for the Aging, the Heritage Pointe Board of Directors was formed with Meryl serving as the first Board President. As the first VP of Development, Loretta was key in creating seven community support chapters whose 1,000 plus members raised the awareness and the seed money to establish the community. In June 1990, the first residents moved into Heritage Pointe. Loretta and her husband, Herb, donated the first Torah, its mantle, and the Aron HaKodesh (Holy Ark) acknowledging Heritage Pointe’s Jewish identity.
Meryl served as President from 1987 to 1990 and is still a member of the advisory committee today. Loretta has served as Heritage Pointe’s Volunteer Coordinator since 1993, and continues to support lifelong learning at the community through the Dr. Herb and Loretta Modelevsky ZEST for Learning Endowment Fund.
